Our History

Over 50 years of making music together.....

The Mideast Early Music Workshop began in 1971 when Marilyn Carlson, former Director of the Collegium Musicum Instrumental Ensembles at Oberlin College, gathered a group of recorder students together to share her passion for the music of the Medieval and Renaissance.   Viol and Baroque Flute were added in subsequent years and the workshop moved to larger facilities in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area.

Our name, "Mideast",  reflects our locale where for over 50 years we have welcomed students from around the country.

If you play Recorder, Viol or Baroque Flute, this Workshop is for you.

Gather with enthusiasts of all levels for a week filled with music, coached by congenial and inspiring faculty.
