The Workshop
Gather with fellow adults who love playing music from the Renaissance and Baroque in this Congenial and Welcoming workshop.
Choose Recorder, Viol or Baroque Flute as your primary instrument. (all levels welcome). Bring along the rest of your favorite early music instruments, such as Crumhorn, Sackbut, harp, percussion, your voice and more.
All Classes use A=440
- The Workshop begins with Sunday supper, followed by everyone joining in the All Workshop Ensemble. more about the schedule...
- We end the week on Friday evening with the Student Class concert followed by a farewell party. Dorm checkout is Saturday morning .
- Each day, Monday thru Friday, begins at 9 am with small ensembles of like instruments
- After lunch we play consort music in small groups
- Fill the remainder of the day with elective classes as you choose. more about all the Classes...
- Housing is in Bold Hall Dormitory. All rooms are air conditioned and have a private bath. Read more....

Over 50 years of making music together.....
The Mideast Early Music Workshop began in 1971 when Marilyn Carlson, former Director of the Collegium Musicum Instrumental Ensembles at Oberlin College, gathered a group of recorder students together to share her passion for the music of the Medieval and Renaissance. Viol and Baroque Flute were added in subsequent years and the workshop moved to larger facilities in the greater Pittsburgh, PA area.
Our name, "Mideast", reflects our location in the middle-eastern part of the U.S. where we welcome students from around the country.
